Holiday in the mountain lodge
Our lodge is situated in an absolutely quiet, secluded location right next to the forest, at the foot of the mighty Dachstein massif. In the large natural garden of the Klaushofstube, your children and your dog can play and romp to their heart's content. The holiday apartment has its own garden area with a lawn and a large, sunny south-facing terrace. Here you can enjoy your breakfast in the morning and end the day with a glass of good wine on mild summer nights. There is no public road at the cottage and your closest neighbors are only the animals of the forest.
Of course there is a brick barbecue in the garden, the charcoal is free. And our high-speed wireless internet also works outside.
Glacier mountains and bathing lakes - that is the motto of the mountain summer with us. Climbing in the high alpine rock today, lazing and sunbathing at the bathing lake tomorrow. This is summer retreat in the Salzkammergut - the swimming season lasts until the beginning of September and all the lakes have drinking water quality.
Families with children look forward to gentle alpine hikes and child-friendly mountain huts to stop off at. If you prefer sport, conquer our region by mountain bike on hundreds of kilometers of MTB routes for every condition and taste, up to the legendary Salzkammergut Trophy marathon race track. Or do you like climbing? There you go, our Salzkammergut is an Eldorado for via ferrata fans. Around 40 "Via Ferratas", from suitable for beginners to difficulty level E+, are waiting for you in our region.
In winter, skiing dominates life in our Gosau mountains. Around 120 km of classy alpine pistes and a magnificent mountain panorama inspire skiers and snowboarders, and hearty ski huts invite you to stop off. Our ski mountains Hornspitz, Zwieselalm and Krippenstein offer you downhill fun at altitudes between 750 and 2100 meters, snow guaranteed until the beginning of April. And then there is Austria's longest ski run with a length of 11 kilometers from the Krippenstein to Obertraun. The free ski bus takes you to the valley station of the cable car in just over 5 minutes; the bus stop is only a 3-minute walk from the Klaushofstube.
If you are more into off-piste: Freeriders and tourers will also get their money's worth with us; in high winter ski tours are possible directly from our hut.
"Slow Winter" - that's winter fun without the hustle and bustle of the slopes: Snowshoeing the high mountains, cross-country skiing on sunny trails right from the door of the hut, a romantic horse-drawn sleigh ride, heating up the old farm stove, finally reading a good book again, or just letting your soul dangle and enjoy the crystal clear mountain air.
Since 2017 we have dedicated ourselves to this gentle winter experience at the Klaushofstube, which is now becoming more and more popular. Our "Slow Winter" concept will inspire you, even if you have never had a winter holiday in the Alps before!
Our Klaushofstube is located in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage region of Hallstatt Dachstein Salzkammergut, designated as a natural and cultural heritage site. Picturesque Hallstatt, with its 6000-year history, is only a 15-minute drive from the lodge. Bad Ischl in the Salzkammergut, the former imperial summer residence where Franz-Josef I. met and fell in love with his bride "Sisi" in 1853, is now a romantic little residence town with the healing Salzkammergut thermal baths and invites for a day trip. And the cultural and shopping metropolis of Salzburg, where the world-famous Salzburg Festival takes place every summer, can be easily reached from us in just under an hour by car.
